This year, I have created a Sixth Grade Theme called “Random Acts of Literacy”. I came up with this theme based on the love I have for the book Random Acts of Kindness ,  the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation and the feeling that a good book, just like kindness, is something that can bring great joy to people, if only we take the time to spread the love of reading to others.  As an underlying, year-long theme, our “Random Acts of Literacy” will take many shapes and forms. From the “electronic book reviews” (imovies and podcasts) to creating short stories for younger children to our own version of bookcrossing (the concept of reading and releasing book to total strangers) – our class mission is to read as much as possible and encourage others to do the same.

This blog has been created as a place where my students (and parents) can write about the books they love or love to hate. It is yet another way we can share our love of reading and encourage others to crack a good book.

We will use this blog as part of our fantasy literature circle/book club project, so stay tuned for more information.

I just finished reading the book The Pity Party by Alison Pollet. I LOOOOOOOOVE this book!!! the author uses lots of literary devices like similes, metaphors, and personafacation. This book is a sequel but you don’t have to read the first book (No One was Here) to understand it.

I read Magic By The Lake for my second trimester book project. I highly recommend this book and this series by Edward Eager because they are packed with fun and adventure. I hope you get a chance to read this series.

I read The Summer of The Swans over the summer. The book is about a boy how went looking for the swans on night. When his family woke up, and they called his name from downstairs and realiized he was gone. His sister went outside and called his name Charle, but there was no answer. I recomend this book to people who like the forest.

I just recently finished a wonderful mystery novel called A Great and Terrible Beauty. It was an action filled book most readers would love (as I did). It is about a girl that has found out that she has this creepy power, seeing the future, or as most call it visions…. She also finds out that she is bieng spyed on.

I finished reading a book called Rebel Angels, which is a follow up to A Great and Terrible Beauty. The book is filled with the curiosity of the young girls as well as a little romance and more than anything, action.

I read a book called The City of Ember. It was an exciting book that allowed imagination. In a way it was sad but it had an ending that made you happy but you also wanted to read the next book. It was about two kids that now have jobs and they want to find a way out of their small, dark city. Their city is surronded by darkness and the lights they have keep flickering out. Everyone knows that one day they’ll go out and never come back on. The book gives you hope and thats what I like.

I finished a book called Island Girls (and Boys). It was a very romantic book but it had a terrible ending. I don’t like books that have bad endings but overall it was o k. Or at least worthwhile. :-)

I have just finished a book called the Lightning Thief. It is about a kid named Percy Jackson who is a demigod or half-blood because his mother married Posideon, god of the sea and earthquakes. The story is when Zeus, god of lightning, loses his master bolt and blames Percy. Percy must battle countless monsters to find the missing master bolt. This book is very exciting and can mislead you in to thinking something else. It is a little obvious sometimes but can still be made up for by telling you other things.
