Starting East by Edith Pattou…

Today I am starting a book recommended to me by Nicole C. It is called East by Edith Pattou. I think I will really like East because it is based on a  classic fairy tale “East of the Sun, West of the Moon.” East is an ALA (American Library Association) notable book. I tend to love novels that rewrite history or old folk tales. Nicole really liked the book, so I’m sure I will, too. I’ll keep you posted!

Read any good books lately?

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:11 pm by mrsfarnum

Have you read any good books lately? I am currently reading The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore by Joan Lowery Nixon. I’m not too far into the book, but it has captured my interest right away. I will write more when I finish.

2/17/07 – I finally finished the book. I liked it for the following reasons:

1. It is a mystery. I tend to gravitate to fantasy, historical fiction and classics, so this was a nice change of pace for me.

2. Joan Lowery Nixon is an expert at interchanging between dialogue, inner monologue and descriptions in her writing. She does it in such a way that you don’t realize you’re taking in the story in different ways.

3. I love the fact that most of Nixon’s books show growth and change in character. This book’s main character, Christina, is extremely brave in some very scary situations.

 4. This book is full of suspense and would be great for any reluctant or easily bored reader. The vocabulary is relatively straight forward, and my calculations level this book at about a 6.7 reading level.

5. This book is not for the squeamish. Christina, the main character, is placed in some pretty scary situations. If you like a thiller – this is the book for you.

What do you think? Has anyone else read this book?
